Abstract
This paper aims to illustrate a design experience of urban regeneration and sustainable architectural design in the Soccavo district in the province of Naples. An area in close relationship with the surrounding nature, overhanging presence of Camaldoli, whose current structure is the result of various transformations that took place over time, start with the first settlements on the “Neapolis Puteolim for colles” layout, then get closer and closer to the hill and then to the quarries. The research highlights the definition of a design methodology that makes use of the design in all its forms: as a collection of data, proposal preparation tool and representation of the results. Through the union between shape and articulation of spaces, built and not built, the orientation of buildings and the relationship between them, the project proposal aims to the enhancement of the social relations between citizens favoring the permeability of public and private spaces. The morphological and functional choices are combined to the use of measures that will improve the energy efficiency of the building complex and the attention towards the visual integration with the surrounding landscape. The goal is the realization of a project-contribution to a city model that really works as a complete totality of offices, residences, shops, services, culture and entertainment, excellence and normality.
